At its annual I/O developer conference, Google’s strategy shifted from announcing flashy new models to deeply and practically integrating its Gemini AI across its entire product suite. The core announcement was "Google Astra," a project envisioning a future AI agent that can understand and respond to the world seen through a phone camera in real time, similar to GPT-4o. More immediately, Google is rolling out AI Overviews in Search, which will provide AI-generated summaries at the top of results, aiming to answer complex questions without requiring users to click through links.

The integration extends to Workspace, where "Gemini Live" will offer voice-interactive planning and reasoning, and "Gems" will allow users to create custom AI assistants for specific tasks. Gmail is getting an "AI-organized" inbox, and Photos will allow users to "Ask Photos" complex questions about their images (e.g., "find my license plate number"). This omnipresent rollout demonstrates Google's ultimate advantage: its vast ecosystem. Instead of just a standalone chatbot, Gemini is becoming the underlying intelligence for the tools billions use daily, making AI an unavoidable and utility-driven part of the digital experience.
